Bedside Table Lamps

(125)

Everyone should know the ease of rolling over and flicking a switch. Noone needs to deal with clambering out of bed only to be floored by the shock of the bedroom ceiling light first thing in the morning. Bedside table lamps are the answer, a delicate glow, right there next to the bed.

How tall should bedside lamps be?

As a general rule of thumb, you'll ideally want your bedside table lamp to be approximately 24-30 inches in height. Of course, the height you should settle on will vary depending on your bedside table's height to some degree, but a height between 24-30 inches should mean that the lamp won't be shining over your head and into your eyeline. This is perfect for the ideal reading light level, as the bottom of the lampshade should be roughly level with your eyes.

What is the best type of lamp for bedside reading?

Traditional shaded table lamps are a bedside classic for a reason and can give you a great reading light level as explained above, but if you're looking for something a little more direct then an pivotable wall light directly above your head would greatly illuminate your reading material without your head casting a shadow. Alternatively, an adjustable floor standing lamp near your bed may also be a good option depending on your needs!

Should your bedside lamps match?

While your bedside lamps don't necessarily have to match on either side, they should at least compliment the bedroom's overall style and be balanced in size.
