How to update your kitchen on a budget
How to update your kitchen on a budget.
There has certainly been a lot less eating out for a lot of us recently, which of course means more time cooking homemade meals in our kitchens, maybe a little too much time! So suddenly you are noticing just how tired and outdated your kitchen is. When a full renovation is out of the question, we have a handful of ideas for you to give your kitchen a new lease of life without breaking the bank. Updating your kitchen on a budget means no major remodelling or changing the layout, but that does not mean you have to be stuck with the same old, tired look.
The best starting point is to get those cupboards organised!
A daunting task perhaps but necessary.

Smart Storage
Get storage savvy.
The best starting point is to get those cupboards organised! A daunting task perhaps but necessary, you never know what useless or useful stuff you will find hiding in the back of your cupboards, so pull everything out and start getting rid of those random Tupperware tubs … you know you will never find the lids now! So do away with anything you do not use anymore, and look into new storage solutions to help keep your kitchen nice and organised, such as small baskets to sort and store packet mixes and other small packages. Consider a fancy spice rack to add to your countertop and provide an easy storage solution, for all those herbs and spices you are totally going to use.
If you are looking to save counter space you can look into the variety of alternative storage solutions out there, such as wall hangings for storing your knives, pans or even cups on the wall. And this makes for some appealing wall décor, as well as some handy space saving storage. Once the inside of your cupboards are nice and organised, it is time to turn your attention to the exterior. The cabinet doors can change the entire look of your kitchen, updating your cabinet doors on a budget could be easier than you think. Taking cabinet doors off and replace them entirely is often the first thing that comes to mind, but could be costly. So instead you can look at painting the cabinet doors yourself, and adding some elegant new handles, for a refreshing change. If you are feeling really bold, you could even consider ditching the cabinet doors completely and go for a more open look with exposed shelves.

Lighting is a powerful tool, and can completely change the look and atmosphere of any space, and is an amazing way to modernise your kitchen. When choosing the lighting for your lovely new kitchen, remember to have different options available to provide various levels of light. Task lighting is an absolute must for your food prep area:- under-counter lights are a fabulous option for this; they provide direct light on to your work surfaces, as well as adding atmospheric low-level lighting for those relaxing post-dinner conversations. So our Circular Under Cabinets lights are an ideal choice, to get as many as you need. If you have a kitchen island or dining table, adding some over island lighting can really add to your aesthetics, as well as creating a statement.
Our Steampunk Antique Brass Ceiling Pendant makes for flawless over-island lighting, and with the choice of using one or more pendant for longer islands, it will be sure to be the focal point of the space. Next, to really make a statement you can even pair it with a shade of your choice. You can go bold with one of our Colby Pendant shades, or opt to go more ornate with the Kelsks Chandelier shade, to add some sparkle to your space. Now, we know that nobody likes washing the dishes, but that does not mean you cannot make the space as aesthetically pleasing as possible, with some complimentary gooseneck wall sconces arched over your kitchen sink, such as our Porter Swan Neck Wall Lights. These are available in an Antique Brass, or a Black finish to add a touch of class to our least favourite spot in the kitchen.

Update your Décor.
The easiest way to completely change and update your kitchen on a budget is with a fresh coat of paint. However, be sure to get advice from your local hardware store on any prep work or primers you may need, depending on the material you are painting. Whilst you have the paints out you could also upcycle any kitchen furnishings you have:- spruce up those tired old dining room table and chairs with a fresh varnish, or be bold and paint them an eye-catching colour that works well with your overall theme.
