Lighting ideas for low ceilings

Lighting a room with low ceilings can be quite challenging, but by no means impossible. There are so many lighting ideas and techniques out there that with the right placement and design, your rooms can look stylish and up to date. You will need to remember that layering lights and grouping smaller lights together will help with lighting the rooms with lower ceilings, but this doesn’t mean you have fewer choices when it comes to lights.

Classic metal lights

When deciding what lights to go for in rooms with low ceilings, you need to first think about the purpose of them – for example, do you need task lighting for reading? If this is the case, you might want to consider a classic, metal table light, which is both modern and practical. Our Modern Portable and Adjustable Mini Metal Table Clamp Clip on Desk Spotlight Lamp is ideal if you don’t have a set ‘reading corner’ and want to be able to read from any room in your house. This lamp can be put in any room, clipped to headboards or bookshelves, while also being stylish and minimal.

Keeping it flush

Low ceilings can prove to be a bit tricky when it comes to lighting entire rooms, but that doesn’t mean it is impossible. Flush, mounted ceiling lights are the ideal choice for any low ceiling, as they take up absolutely no space whatsoever. Black flush ceiling lights are especially stylish and create a modern feel to any home, without the hassle of taking up any unnecessary space.

If you think you might be interested in flush lights, we recommend evenly distributing them to ensure you have an evenly lit room.

Timeless floor lamps

If your rooms have low ceilings, you might get frustrated when trying to create an atmospheric vibe in your room – but there are so many options for you. Floor lamps are timeless and can be placed in a corner of a room, at the end of a sofa, or behind an armchair. They are unobtrusive and create a warm ambience, while also being stylish and functional.

Putting your floor lamp at the end of a chair will create ambient lighting and compliment the style of room, without taking up too much space.

Cosy corner

Everyone needs somewhere in their home to feel cosy and relaxed – which is why choosing to have a cosy corner in your home is ideal. Whether you want to use this corner for curling up with a good book, or just sit and relax with a cuppa, you will need the right lighting. If you have low ceilings, we suggest getting yourself a floor lamp that creates soft lighting, without being too harsh or like a spotlight. Our Towa Shelved Dark Wood Tripod Floor Lamp is ideal for those wanting to have a floor lamp, but who might also need a little bit extra storage – as this lamp has built in shelves, ideal for a little reading corner.
