The size of the ceiling lighting you need is dependent on the dimensions of the hallway. There’s a lot of wiggle room here so that your choice fits your aesthetic tastes above all else.
But, to start - for a quick guide, add the hallway's width and length in feet, and consider a fixture with a similar diameter in inches. A 6-ft-wide hallway, for instance, might benefit from a 12-inch diameter light.
You can always build a little lighting scheme, don’t forget. Bringing in wall lights and lamps for a little bit of added ambience.
Pendant lights have more to do with the height of a space, rather than the width. If you’ve got a narrow hallway with high ceilings then a pendant light could be the perfect choice because it brings the light further down into the room. However, if it’s a narrow hallway with a low ceiling, then it might be better to adopt a flusher choice and preserve some of that precious headspace.
All of our hallway ceiling lights are compatible with LED bulbs, which will instantly (and massively) improve their energy efficiency.
