What is the best outdoor light
What is the best outdoor light?
It depends on what you need the light for. However, it isn't easy choosing or even finding the best outdoor light. The reasons why most customers purchase them are for two main reasons: security and aesthetic. It is a lovely pleasure to sit in a garden at dusk on a summer evening and admire your garden and enjoy the peace with outdoor lighting in the background. Then of course, there’s nothing worse than putting out the bins on a winter’s evening in pitch blackness. It’s a nice touch to have that security light pop on when you leave the backdoor to put rubbish out! You’d be surprised how much this happens.
But what exactly do you need the outdoor light for?
It is for decking. Then you need IP rated walkover lights. These are weatherproof and ideal for outdoor use. These can come in packs of 10 or 20 LED lights. You can also purchase coloured decking lights too. Our decking lights category is here: valuelights.co.uk/outdoor-lights/decking-lights
If you are looking for special ways to light up your garden but don't need bright illumination from a flood light for example, then bollard lights are among the best. These give off a low, subtle light specifically designed to illuminate a much smaller area you choose.
Plinth lights are ideal too. These sit recessed into the risers on a flight of steps. They look amazing at dusk, or in the evening and radiate warmth and ambience while you're chillaxing at your garden table with a drink in hand.
Festoon lights are ideal for those summer evenings too. If you don’t have a big garden nor any decking, then festoons are great to brighten up a smaller garden space. Importantly, they aren’t expensive too. The same goes for ground spike lights – these are perfect if you’re on a tight budget.

What’s the best wall lantern light?
Lantern wall lights are very popular. You will find so many to choose from as well. The key thing though is finding a wall lantern that will compliment your house or garden style. This might be traditional, Victorian, modern or something else. You will find rectangular lanterns, bulkhead lights, modern up and down lights, and more. The best ones though, tend to be the modern wall lights, as they're on-trend. There's a category here of lanterns and bollard lights: valuelights.co.uk/outdoor-lights/wall-lights-and-lanterns
The best outdoor lights to purchase for security are ones with motion sensors that automatically switch on when they detect movement. If of course, your reason to need one is for security. Then there’s the brightness because the size of your garden determines what size of light you need to illuminate a wide area. But there are flood lights too that you can purchase at lower cost which don’t have motion sensors. They just simply switch on from a mains switch.
