What lighting is best for your hallway is going to depend on the specifics. Are you looking for hanging hallway lights for your exceptionally high-ceilinged hallway? Or perhaps dark hallway lighting, with a serious job to do.
- Ceiling Fixtures: Flush mount or semi-flush mount fixtures provide general ambient lighting. Chandeliers or pendant lights can add a touch of elegance in larger hallways.
- Wall Sconces: These are great for adding both ambient and accent lighting. They work well in narrow hallways or areas where space is limited. Wall lighting, if you’re feeling fancy, is also a great way to highlight artworks and architectural interest points you want to show off.
- Recessed Lighting: Ideal for creating a clean and modern look. Create a simple, non-intrusive base layer of lighting and then build your ambience over the top.
Consider the dimensions of the hallway and the overall design aesthetic and that should tell you all you need to know. Largely, this is all about choice and preference. What you like, goes. That being said, the bigger the hallway, the bigger the lights. Or, the more the brighter!
Narrow hallways can be easily overwhelmed, so thoughtful consideration is a must. Some good starting points are to consider these styles:
- Wall sconces: These will offer a nice, ambient kind of light without overwhelming the hallway space by taking up valuable floor space.
- Flush mount fixtures: Slim and low-profile flush mount fixtures will keep the ceiling from looking too cluttered. Flush mount lighting can still deliver good, general illumination, without protruding too much into the headspace.
- LED strip lights: Install LED strip lights along the baseboards or ceiling to create a subtle, indirect glow. This can make the space feel wider and really maximise your square footage of your hallway.
