What are the different types of wall lights available?

There’s a lot that goes into picking a wall light, least of all is what style you’re looking for. We’ve got LED wall lights, swan neck lights, caged wall lights, IP rated wall lights, flush wall lights, plug in wall lights, a little monkey wall light, wall lights with shades, swing arms wall lights, lantern wall lights, we even have garden stake lights that double as wall lights! Whether you're looking for indoor wall lights or outdoor wall lights, we'll have what you're looking for. And that’s not even touching on finishes, materials, or colours! We’ve got all the neutrals; black, brown, clear, copper, gold, grey, silver and white, in metallic, plastic or glass finishes and materials. So, you better believe us when we say, if you want it – we’ve got it.

How do I choose the right size and style of wall lights?

We love offering guidance, but above all we want to support you making the right decisions for your space just as you like it. Ultimately all that matters is that your interior design itch is being scratched. That being said, if you’re really not sure where to start then some things you might want to consider are the size of the space and the style of the room (either as it is or how you want it). A wall light can really turn a space around, and whether you’re looking for bright lighting or an ambient glow is going to impact what size and how many wall lights you’re going to want. Take picture wall lights, for example, you’re probably not trying to use picture wall lights as the main source of light in a room. So how many pictures you want to shine that bit of brightness on is going to dictate the size and number of wall lights you bring in. If you’re looking for a décor piece that brings your, frankly gorgeous, wallpaper to life after dark then you might want to dot one or two wall lights around and bring in that moody glow. But now, you might even want to use wall light fixtures as your main source of lighting. Especially in a space like a garden that doesn’t facilitate a ceiling light. To do this you’re going to need to really consider the size of the space, the amount of that space that is going to be in active use and how much light you need. A good general rule is to just make sure you’ve got all the measurements you might need in your arsenal so you can visualise the impact the fixture is going to have on the space. Whether you want to go for big or small wall lights, we support you either way!

Can wall lights be used outdoors?

Um, of course! We're not going to only light up the inside of your home and leave you outside in the dark! The biggest thing to keep in mind when you're looking at outdoor wall lights is their IP rating, and if you're not sure what that is rest assured that you're not alone. That's why we've broken it down into an easy-to-understand blog post on what IP ratings are. But basically, the IP rating explains how resistant the light fixture is going to be to the elements. So, depending on where you live and the kind of climate you're dealing with that will influence what kind of IP rated light you need.
