Maybe, above all else, you need something durable to withstand the wagging of a tail or tiny, grabby hands! Metal, definitely go for metal.

The specific bulb type your lamp needs will probably depend on the lamps socket and wattage requirements. 

LED is definitely the ruling bulb choice, they're way more energy efficient, cost effective and last so much longer than your standard halogen bulbs. Not to mention LED bulbs can be smart, dimmable, warm or cool. So much choice for the perfect glow!

We've pre sorted some options for you, cause we're good like that, if you're looking for a desk lamp then you're probably after some good task lighting with a bright light that's compact enough to fit on the desk alongside all of your very important things. Table lamps are a key player in the mood lighting game and they have a specific role within your mood lighting scheme. Of course it's all about proportion, the bigger the space the bigger you can go with the table lamp without things looking out of whack, but hey if out of whack is your vibe then we are all for it. A good place to start is having the bottom of the lamp shade at eye level when you're sat down, and just for the sake of balance and still having usable surface area the width of the lamp shade shouldn't take over the whole table.

All that really matters is that the lamp you choose works for you and your space, so take care in considering the room, furniture and other lighting.
