How to choose the perfect large lampshade for my table or floor lamp?
The height and width of the lamp base and shade are really important when you’re picking a large lampshade. A good baseline formula is that the height of the shade should be about ⅔ of the size of the lamp base, the width should be wider than the widest part of the lamp base. It can be as wide as your keen eye for style dictates (but maybe cap it at the width of the surface the lamp is on).
Of course, if you’re looking to create a design statement, you might want to bend the rules a bit and opt for a shade that’s a little taller or a little wider than the guidelines. However, safety is key and you should make sure that the large lampshade will fit securely on the base of the lamp without putting it at risk of tilting or tipping over.
