LED isn't as much a choice as it is the only option these days, but this is with good reason. Outdated lighting technology (like halogen bulbs) only last a small percentage of the time that LEDs do, they use considerably more energy (which costs more) and they're not as customisable. They also get much hotter, which isn't what you want installed into your decking.

1. Remove the fascia board (the wood that runs around the border of the deck). 
2. Position your decking lights, avoiding the thing that's called the 'joists'.
3. Mark the wood where you plan to drill holes big enough for the decking lights.
4. Feed the wires through the holes.
5. According to our research you now drill through the joists you avoided before, and the noggings. 
6. Make sure the decking lights fit snuggly. 
7. Connect each fitting. 
8. Connect to the LED driver closest to where you'll plug them in. 
9. Tuck all your wiring inside the deck to keep things fresh. 
10. Reattach the fascia board you removed.
