What are the different types of light bulb available?

Phwoar… where to start? At ValueLights, we have just about every light bulb type you can think of: LED (Light Emitting Diode), CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamp), halogen bulbs, capsule bulbs and more. We’ve even got a few little novelty bulbs up our sleeves if you’re feeling like something a little different, including SMART colour changing light bulbs! Each type of lightbulb will have different lifespans, light outputs and energy efficiency. But the golden rule is to use LED Light Bulbs to consume less energy. There’s a lot that goes into picking a bulb, whether you're after white light bulbs or clear ones, but we’ve made sure that info about what bulb you need is available in every one of our product descriptions. We’ve also got lots of easy to digest educational content available to help you understand your light bulb needs. We’ve got our handy dandy bulb guide and a blog on what GLS bulbs are – with more coming so keep an eye out!

What are the benefits of LED bulbs?

In short, they’re energy efficient (which means they’re the more eco friendly and budget friendly choice), they have a super long lifespan of about 50-100,000 hours (around 14 years!) and they’re durable. Compared to traditional incandescent bulbs it’s kind of a no brainer, although we’re not here to judge your bulb choices, we’re here to indulge them. With LED bulbs you get more customisation, you can get a wider array of colours, smart technology and the luxury of dimming.

Should I get white light bulbs or clear light bulbs for my home?

Deciding between white light bulbs or clear light bulbs really depends on your vibe! White bulbs, sometimes also called frosted light bulbs, provide a soft, diffused glow that's perfect for general lighting in a room. On the other hand, a clear bulb lets you see the filament inside, creating a brighter, more focused light that can add a touch of sparkle and style, especially in fixtures with a visible bulb. Both are great options, but it just comes down to the look you're going for!
