Led Light Bulbs

(90)

What is an LED light?

LED bulbs work by passing an electric current through ‘the diode’, a semiconductor in the circuit which then emits light! LED lighting is significantly more environmentally and economically friendly than using halogen and incandescent bulbs (which were banned for most uses in 2019). LED lighting bulbs also permit more customisation over colour, so you can always get that perfect vibe.

How much does an LED bulb cost to run?

LED bulbs don’t just last about 50 times longer than halogen bulbs but looking at the cost per kWh will also see huge savings.

Over 60,000 hours (the lifespan of one 6W LED bulb) the running cost will be approximately £80-£90. Compared to the £700 60W incandescent bulbs would cost to run you’re making huge savings without even considering the cost of the bulbs.

How to change an LED bulb?

First things first: always make sure you’ve turned the power off and unplugged the connectors. If you’re ever in doubt of how to safely change a bulb, consult someone who’s qualified.

What will really indicate the method you need to use is the cap fitting type of the bulb. Bayonet caps need to be lined up with the slots in the lighting fixture, pushed down gently, and turned to lock into place.

Screw caps big or small, you guessed it, need to be screwed in gently.

Spotlight caps require you to pinch the bracket that’s holding them in, and carefully remove (set aside the bracket) this releases the bulb you’re swapping out. Hold the back plate and wiggle the bulb out. Then line up the prongs of the new bulb with the back plate and push it in. Replace into the spotlight fitting and pop the bracket back in to secure it.

Capsule bulbs might be the easiest of all, just gently pull the bulb to release it from the fitting and push the new one in.

What is the brightest LED bulb?

Brightness is measures in kelvins, ranging from low warm light (1000k) to ultra bright daylight (10000k). Lower/warmer lighting is ideal for mood lighting in living areas. Brighter lighting is more energising and will create a vibrant and crisp environment that is better suited to task areas like the kitchen, bathroom, and desk area.

The brighter the light, the higher the watts. The brightest LED bulbs will be around 18w bulbs.
