How they work.
Ceiling fans are a wise edition to any home; they work well for both cooling and adding heat to a room. When you stand under a ceiling fan, you will feel as though the air is cooler, when it is actually your body temperature that is cooling. The downdraft of air produced by the spinning fan blades helps your sweat to evaporate faster, cooling your body. By rotating the fan blades in a ‘reverse’ counter clockwise, that produces a comfortable breeze that cools the skin during the hotter months. However, technically, ceiling fans do not actually cool the room, but instead improve the air circulation in the room, allowing for that cooling breeze of air we all crave in those humid summer nights. Ceiling fans are not just beneficial in the summer months though, in the winter months, ceiling fans can also be used to help warm the space: when rotating clockwise, the ceiling fan will spread the heat that rises and gets trapped at the top of the room, so a new ceiling fan will come in handy all year round.

The right fan for the room.
To get the best performance from your ceiling fan, the room size must be considered. For smaller rooms, such as bathroom or laundry rooms, that are between 50sq. ft and 100sq. ft.,
a fan with a width of 29” – 42” are the best, like of 30” spitfire in a brushed chrome finish with reversible blades and a central light. Standard rooms and family rooms between 100sq. ft and 400sq. ft require a blade width of 42” to 52” to work most efficiently, like our 48” Apache Chrome & Wood ceiling fan with a light, remote control and reversible blades. Larger rooms of 400sq. ft plus would require a 54” or larger blade span. For maximum comfort, the fan should be placed in the centre of the room or as close as possible, keeping blade tips at least 18 inches from any walls. The ceiling height should also be considered when choosing your ideal ceiling fan. Your ceiling fan should be eight or nine feet above the floor: if your ceilings are higher than nine feet, a down-rod extension can be used.

Light
Depending on the room, you may also want your ceiling fan to have a light incorporated into it. So choosing the right kind of light for the room is just as important as choosing the right fan. And luckily, there are a lot of options available, where the ceiling fan has lights incorporated into the design: you can save ceiling space, and avoid the room looking overcrowded. Small or Standard rooms will only need a ceiling fan with one or two lights: our Sebring 48” ceiling fan with clear blades comes with 2 light fittings in the centre of the design, ideal for adding overhead lighting to an entire room. And it also comes with a remote control, so that you can control the fan speed, and turn the lights on or off from anywhere in the room. Larger rooms would benefit from a ceiling fan with more lights, such as our Scimitar 42” ceiling fan in a brushed chrome and black finish. Here the design features 4 spotlights at the bottom of the fan, that are each on adjustable heads, allowing you to focus the lights wherever needed.
